I would like to welcome all of our new Scouts and Leaders to Pack 448.  I look forward to a great Scouting year and an opportunity to get to know you and have some fun along the way!

I would like to thank the parents that have come forward and volunteered to be Den Leaders, Assistant Den Leaders, and Pack Committee members.  Without you we would not be able to provide this wonderful program to your sons and the more help we have the better our program can be.

I know most of you are new to Scouting and most of you are saying “What do I do now?”.  Relax there is help and you are not in this alone.  Debra, Jim, Bryant, Jane, and myself at one time have all been in your situation and we are here to help guide you, answer as many of your questions as we can, or find the help you will need to be successful Cub Scout Leaders.

To help you better prepare for our upcoming Den Meetings and to start to organizing ourselves, I would like to invite you to a planning session at 10am Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Trinity United Methodist Church.  The meeting will give us an opportunity to share what resources are available to you for meeting planning, Leadership training both online and upcoming classroom opportunities, and  discuss Pack and District events.  We expect the meeting to last at least an hour but we might be able to stretch that a bit if needed.

In the meantime, I have set up this Private Google Group to help us communicate and give us a single email address to be able to contact everyone.  Please use this address, bsa-pack-448-murfreesboro@googlegroups.com, to share information with the group and/or to post questions to the group. Don’t be shy asking questions or sharing relevant information with the group.  If you have a question I could pretty well guarantee that there is at least one other person in the group that has the same question.

Another resource I want to use a lot is our Pack website at BSAPack448.com.  The website has been set up to provide a source of information about the Pack and some relevant news stories from Boy’s Life and CubScouting.org.  In addition, we will be periodically posting Pack news as well as the site providing a Google Calendar with Pack and District events as far out in the future as we know about.

Last but not least, is Youth Protection.  This is a topic that is taken very seriously from BSA National all the way down to the Pack.  Every adult leader is required to take a Youth Protection course as soon as possible.  This course is available online and is valid for 2 years.  You do not have to be a registered BSA member to take Youth Protection training.  To take Youth Protection training go to My.Scouting.org  and create an account. You’ll receive an email notification with your account information, including a member ID/reference number.  From the My.Scouting.org  portal, click Menu then My Dashboard from the menu list. The My Training page displays to take Youth Protection training. Upon completion, you may print a training certificate.

I look forward to seeing all of you on Saturday.
